Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Crafted Life ("we", "us") handles personal data when you use WriteBand, our essay feedback service on the web and, later, in our mobile apps. Questions: [email protected].

1. What we collect

• Account: your email address, name, password (stored only as a one-way hash) and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the account identifier that provider gives us.
• Profile: your public display name, target band and exam date, if you set them.
• Essays and results: the questions and essays you submit, and the scores, feedback and rewrites we return.
• Community: essays you choose to share, comments, likes and reports.
• Purchases: your grading credits, VIP pass and purchase history. We never see or store your card number; Polar handles payment details.
• Technical data: IP address, device and browser type and request logs, used for security, rate limiting and abuse prevention.

2. How we use it

• To create and secure your account and send sign-in and password reset codes.
• To grade your essays and keep your history so you can track progress.
• To show essays you share, with your display name (never your email address).
• To process purchases, grant credits and VIP passes, and handle refunds.
• To prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our Terms and keep the service running.

We do not sell your personal data, show advertising or use tracking cookies. We use your essays only to provide the service to you; we do not use them to train AI models.

3. Who processes your data

We share data only with the providers we need to run WriteBand:

• Anthropic (Claude API) receives the question and essay text to grade them.
• Google Firebase Authentication verifies Google and Apple sign-in.
• Polar processes payments as our Merchant of Record and receives the billing details you enter at checkout.
• Brevo delivers our emails (sign-in and reset codes).
• Cloudflare provides network security and delivery for our website and API.

Some of these providers process data outside your country, including in the United States, under their own safeguards for international transfers. We may also disclose data when the law requires it.

4. Shared essays

An essay you share is public: anyone with the link, and visitors of the community page, can read it with its score and your display name until you unshare it. Remove names and personal details before sharing. Comments you post show your display name.

5. Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. To delete your account and its essays, email [email protected] from the address on the account; we delete it within 30 days, except records we must keep by law (for example purchase records for tax purposes). Server logs are kept for a short period for security.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and the CCPA), you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, or object to or restrict some processing. Email [email protected]; we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

7. Security

We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords and codes, short-lived access tokens and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

8. Children

WriteBand is not for children under 13. If you are under 16 and live in the European Economic Area, you need the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. If the change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. See also our Terms of Use.
